Dear Year 12 VCE Students and their Carers,
Congratulations on reaching this significant milestone in your academic journey! As you embark on your final year of secondary education, you are standing at the threshold of numerous opportunities and challenges. This year is not just about academics; it’s a transformative period that will shape your future.

First and foremost, acknowledge the hard work and dedication that have brought you to this point. You’ve overcome obstacles, faced exams, and demonstrated resilience. Remember that you are not alone in this journey—your teachers, friends, and family are here to support you every step of the way.

VCE Certificate Requirements
For successful completion of the VCE, students must fulfil certain requirements, including the completion of English 1-4 or Literacy 1-4. Each unit consists of various outcomes, and students are required to attain a Satisfactory (S) on all outcomes, supported by evidence such as classwork, homework tasks, coursework, and SACs (School Assessed Coursework).

VCE VM Students
Additional to the VCE Certificate requirements above, Vocational Major students MUST complete 40hours of community service and 40 hours work placement.
* Students should have received, completed and returned paperwork to their teachers already *

Attendance
Regular attendance, with a minimum of 80% in classes, is also crucial for achieving satisfactory results.

SAC/SAT and Missed SACs (School Assessed Coursework)

  • Students must attend scheduled SAC/SAT sessions
  • If you have a wedding, special event, concert etc and you have a SAC scheduled YOU MUST organise to sit the sac BEFORE the event to avoid receiving a penalty for missed SAC as these ARE NOT accepted as reasons to miss a SAC.
  • If you are unsure if your situation is suitable to miss a SAC- speak/email me when you receive the SAC notification- which should be 2 weeks prior to scheduled SAC.
  • In the case of an unplanned absence or illness, phone/email the subject teacher and/or House Leader/VCE Coordinator to notify of absence. Medical certificates are required as proof of illness.
  • All Wednesday period 3 & 4 SACs are being held in Galvin Hall- please bring with you ID, pens, pencils, clear drink bottle (no labels) and any specialist equipment your teacher has advised you to bring eg: Calculator.
  • *Students can access the Wednesday SAC Calendar in the subject student agency calendar page *

VCE Exams & GAT
All exams and the GAT are compulsory for all VCE & VCE VM Unit 3-4 students and cannot be rescheduled.
VCE Exams- specific subject exam times will be published by the end of May

Assessment Dates for 2024

  • GAT: Tuesday 18th June (compulsory for ALL VCE & VCE VM students)

VCAA Examination Rules
Students are required to observe the VCAA rules for the conduct of VCE external assessments that are conducted by or on behalf of the VCAA, as well as the day-to-day rules of the institution hosting the external assessment. VCAA rules shall apply with appropriate and reasonable modifications to students who have disabilities or other impairments. The rules are available on the VCAA website and are included in relevant publications for students, such as the GAT brochure and VCE Exams Navigator. *By entering the exam venue students agree to adhere to exam rules and any consequences of breaking these rules *

Special Provisions – Applications are submitted to the VCE Coordinator, 2024 applications close Friday 1st March *
Special Provision provides students completing the VCE or VCE VM who are affected by illness, disability, or other personal circumstances with an opportunity to participate in and complete their secondary level studies at the same level as their peers.
Special Provision is available for:

  • classroom learning
  • school-based assessments
  • VCE external assessments.
  • * Late applications or short-term provisions can be put into place for conditions/incidents that may occur during the year that can impact the students ability to perform in assessment eg Broken arm, concussion, surgery etc.

Plagiarism
As you navigate your final year, I’d like to emphasize the importance of academic integrity. Plagiarism undermines the learning process and your personal growth. Take pride in your work, cite your sources, and let your unique voice shine. Cheating or plagiarism of any sort is not tolerated at VCE level. Furthermore, such a breach that may occur in an assessment task (SAC) may result in 0% and consequently will have a major impact on the student’s overall study score and ATAR. Also, Don’t share your work with others as you risk receiving penalties also. If students feel that they are not able to submit work by a due date or to the required standard, please speak with subject teachers prior to the due date to find a solution. Our teachers are both dedicated and experienced, and they are only too happy to help whenever they can within the guidelines of the VCE.

Career, Pathway and Early Entry Advice
Please contact Garry Brook via garry.brook@wssc.vic.edu.au to book a time.
This year will undoubtedly come with its share of stress and pressure, but try to view it as an opportunity for personal and intellectual growth. Embrace the challenges, learn from setbacks, and celebrate your victories, big or small. Your experiences in Year 12 will not only contribute to your academic success but also shape your character and mindset for the years ahead.

Assessment Dates for 2024
While academic achievement is important, don’t forget to take care of your well-being. Make time for self-care, stay active, and maintain a balance between study and relaxation. Surround yourself with positive influences, and don’t hesitate to seek help when needed from your teachers, house leaders, VCE Coordinator or wellbeing team. Your mental and emotional well-being is crucial for optimal performance, you are not alone in this journey.

Remember that success is not always measured by grades alone. It’s about the skills you develop, the knowledge you gain, and the person you become. Take advantage of the resources available to you, ask questions, and explore your interests beyond the curriculum. Consider this year as an opportunity to discover your passions and set the foundation for your future endeavours.
